_Year 01: York University Design
Academic
Year:‎ ‎2024-25

_Synopsis

My best work from my first year of the Design (BDes) program at York University in Toronto. I am grateful for all I that have learned from my professors, teaching assistants and peers, such as typography, composition and the importance of the design process.

American Psycho
FA/DESN 1001 - Communication Design Foundation
Instructor: Emery Norton

Redesigning a novel cover with two solutions: image based and typographic based. No stock imagery allowed. The first iteration employs contrast between chaotic marker lines and rigid typographic structure to visually reflect the misogynistic violence of American Psycho and the fractured, OCD-like psyche of Patrick Bateman. The second iteration relies on more covert symbolism, using various “sizing” stickers from a thrift store, where the sporadically arranged and highlighted numbers add up to Bateman’s kill count.

The Martian
FA/DESN 1011 M - Visual Interaction Design
Instructor: Katrina Lovrick

Creating an interactive, web-based digital experience that communicates a story. The design language emulates a futuristic HUD display, reminisicent of the art direction of the movie. The user slowly uncovers elements of the story, which reveal themselves through a consistent hover state action.

Open Neck Lines
FA/DESN 1003 A - Typography: Letter and Word
Instructor: Ronald Tau

Designing a 11 × 17” poster of an event using only two typefaces, no supporting imagery, illustrations or shapes. This poster reflects the essence of the event, where the manipulation of the title letters and alternating orientations is an ode to the dynamic and avant-garde nature of the fashion industry.

Verif.AI

FA/DESN 1011 M - Visual Interaction Design
Instructor: Katrina Lovrick

Designing a 4-5 pages of an app that solves the problem: “How can we flag misinformation online better?” Verif.AI is a concepted AI tool that allows users to input information or attach links/pdfs, and verify their authenicity through easily digestible graphs and diagrams for a quick glance, or a more detailed analysis if required. The soft colours and quirky typography provides trust and warmth for the user.

Who is Robert Pattinson?
FA/DESN 1111 A - Design of the 20th Century
Instructor: Marija Bacic

An accompanying visual to a report about David Carson.
